Winnipeg, MB – At 7:01 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, single-storey house in the 300 block of St John’s Avenue.
When firefighters arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Due to the heavy fire conditions, firefighters were not able to enter the house. They launched a fire attack from the exterior, using hose lines and an aerial ladder to apply water to the fire. The fire was declared under control at 7:31 a.m.
The fire remains under investigation.
The structure suffered significant water, smoke and fire damage and emergency demolition is being arranged. The house was previously damaged in a fire in July 2024.
Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors from a building, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.
If you notice boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you do not see someone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.
