Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Spence Street and Selkirk Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – In the morning of Monday, October 28, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires in vacant buildings.

Spence Street fire

At 7:39 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey vacant house in the 400 block of Spence Street.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the house, declaring the fire under control at 8:30 a.m.

Firefighters searched the house and did not find any occupants. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Selkirk Avenue fire

At 8:43 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue.

Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire from the inside of the house. Crews declared the fire under control at 8:52 a.m. Crews searched the house and did not locate any occupants. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors from a building, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.

If you notice boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you do not see someone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.
