Winnipeg, MB – At 3:31 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2024, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at a two-storey house in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames and the fire had spread to a neighbouring house. They launched a defensive fire attack and fought the fire from outside. It was declared under control at 4:40 a.m.

Some residents self-evacuated before crews arrived on scene. Firefighters also temporarily evacuated some neighbouring homes as a precaution.

Crews completed a search of the structures and located one cat deceased.

There were no other injuries reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team helped find temporary accommodations for displaced residents.

The home where the fire started, and a neighbouring home, were both damaged by the fire. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
