Winnipeg, MB – On Monday, October 28, 2023 at 12:51 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a multi-family building in the 500 block of Marion Street.

When they arrived, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters located and evacuated one person from the building. Paramedics assessed and treated that individual and transported them to hospital in critical condition. All other residents safely self-evacuated from the building before crews arrived.

At the same time, firefighters attacked the fire from inside the building, declaring the fire under control at 1:17 p.m.

Crews located one dog deceased in the building. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency responded to provide care for the dog.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available. Residents from non-affected suites were able to return to their homes once crews left the scene.
