Annual residential water meter reading program begins May 1, 2023

Released: April 26, 2023 at 3:31 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg’s annual water meter reading program will resume on May 1, 2023 and will continue until September 1, 2023. City employees will be visiting homes weekdays between 9 a.m. and dusk.

Meter readers will be wearing facemasks, and homeowners are encouraged to maintain physical distancing while the water meter reader is inside their home. Meter readers will not enter the home if anyone in the household is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Meter readers will be in uniform with the City of Winnipeg logo, they will be carrying a hand-held device, and they will present photo identification before entering a residence. Homeowners are reminded to ask for identification before allowing a meter reader into their home.

Meter readers will only knock at front and side doors; they will not knock at back doors. Homeowners should ensure the water meter is easily accessible and clear of obstructions. All dogs must also be secured either in another room or a kennel before meter readers will enter the home.

The City requires at least one accurate meter reading per year from each household. If a homeowner isn’t at home at the time of the visit, a meter reading card will be left with instructions on how to provide an accurate meter reading by phone or online at winnipeg.ca/meterreading.

Residents can also contact the Utility Billing Centre by phone at 204-986-2455 or by email at utilitybill@winnipeg.ca.
