Winnipeg, MB – At 12:41 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at an encampment in the 0-100 block of Higgins Avenue. WFPS paramedics noticed the fire on their way to another location, reported it to the 911 Communications Centre, and were assigned to provide medical response at this fire.
At the scene, firefighters saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the encampment. Crews searched the tents and structures to ensure no one was inside. Firefighters applied water to the fire from a safe distance, as initial assessments determined there were propane tanks on site that could explode if ignited.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The part of the encampment that was involved in the fire will be a total loss.
