Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to fires on Manitoba Avenue and on Higgins Avenue.
Higgins Avenue fire
At 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire and possible explosion in a temporary encampment on the riverbank near Higgins Avenue.
When crews arrived at the location, they found several tents engulfed in flames and smoke. It’s believed the explosion was the result of propane tanks igniting.
The WFPS drone was used to detect hot spots and to search the area for any individuals who may have been injured as a result of the fire. No individuals were located, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Manitoba Avenue fire
At 6:23 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey duplex in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.
When crews arrived at the location, they found smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the house. The fire was declared under control at 6:47 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the duplex and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage estimates are not available at this time.
