Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on St. John’s Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:19 a.m. on Monday January 17, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in an apartment building in the 200 block of St. John’s Avenue.

When WFPS crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke in the building. An offensive fire attack was initiated and the fire was declared under control at 1:08 a.m.

Occupants of the building were temporarily evacuated and provided shelter aboard a Winnipeg Transit bus. Most were able to return to their suites once crews completed their work on scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated. Several additional suites suffered smoke and water damage. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
