Winnipeg, MB – At 4:26 a.m. on November 20, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of fire in a single-family residence in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy fire involving both the interior and exterior of the home and the detached garage. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:51 a.m.
Occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of WFPS crews. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
Traffic on Selkirk Avenue has been reopened. Drivers should exercise caution in the area as the water used to fight the fire covered the road and has now frozen. City crews will be monitoring the area and applying sand and de-icing agents to improve traction on the roadway.
