Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg recognizes the need for an off-leash dog park in the downtown area and is launching a process for community input. Citizens are invited to participate in a brief survey to help us better understand where dog owners live in the downtown, where residents would like to see an off-leash dog park built and preferences for dog park amenities.
The survey will be open until January 20, 2016. The results will assist in locating and planning the dog park.
Background
Through research and based on available budget, a neighbourhood dog park that is within a 5-10 minute walk to residents in Downtown Winnipeg is being considered.
A dog park in the downtown area is important to:
- Build strong community ties by fostering social opportunities for dogs & people.
- Encourage downtown living.
- Help make dog ownership in the downtown more accessible.
- Create a designated space for dogs to safely exercise and play with other dogs.
- Provide an amenity to attract people to the city’s core.
