Community centres are important neighbourhood hubs. They provide countless hours of sport, recreation, and fun. Run by volunteers, these vibrant spaces make our neighbourhoods feel like home. To help keep these well-loved spaces running for years to come, we provide annual funding through our Community Centre Renovation Grant Program (CCRGP).
This year, we are awarding more than $1.8 million in grants to 24 community centres.
Investing in our communities
CCRGP funding makes a big impact. With it, community centres can continue to play an important role in the lives of Winnipeggers. They can apply annually for funds to help with essential renovation projects. This includes building repairs, upgrades, retrofits, and safety improvements.
Since 2012, we have invested over $20.3 million in these renovation projects.
“I am proud we can offer this funding to our local community centres,” said Tanis Knowles Yarnell, Manager of the City’s Community Centres Division. “This investment strengthens the communities we all love so much.”
The grant program covers up to $100,000 per approved project.
A community partnership
Community centres are owned by the City and are run by independent volunteer boards. These boards manage the facilities, hire staff, and provide programs for residents. The General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres (GCWCC) provides advocacy, support, and training.
