New feature shows passengers where upcoming buses are on the map

Winnipeg, MB – Live bus locations have arrived on a device near you.

Passengers are now able to track buses in near-real time using Navigo and the Winnipeg Transit app. This new feature is also accessible by visiting winnipegtransit.com.

"Our goal is to make Transit a reliable, efficient transportation choice for Winnipeggers," said Councillor Janice Lukes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works.  "This is just one of many adjustments and improvements we're making to help ensure people have the information they need to plan and confidently get where they need to be."

Bus locations update based on GPS will appear as part of search results on the map.

  • On Navigo, the map will show the relevant buses for immediate trip plans
  • ‘Explore routes’ will show buses currently traveling along the route
  • ‘Find stops and schedules’ will show the next five buses heading to a selected stop

Clicking on a bus on the map will provide more information, including how recently the bus’s location was updated.

This feature uses GPS. If there hasn’t been a recent GPS report from a bus, the location won’t be visible in the app.

Winnipeg Transit’s GPS system – which experienced widespread issues last summer and fall – is now performing with the same accuracy it did before.

To try this new feature, passengers can download the Winnipeg Transit app or head to winnipegtransit.com. Current app users are encouraged to check if their app version is up to date.

Passengers trying to conserve data can disable this feature in their app settings.
