Mike O’Shaughnessy Library coming to Garden City Shopping Centre

Winnipeg, MB – We’re looking for input on how the new Mike O’Shaughnessy Library should look and feel.

Today through December 3, Winnipeggers can have their say on the library’s theme, design, and potential public art installations. The three potential themes for the branch are technology, gardens, and seasons.

Residents can participate two ways:

  • By taking an online survey before Wednesday, December 3, 2025
  • By attending a pop-up event on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Garden City Shopping Centre – centre court

“Libraries are important community hubs that support lifelong learning, creativity, and connection,” said Devi Sharma, Councillor for Old Kildonan. “This new branch will be a welcoming new space, serving the residents of northwest Winnipeg. I encourage everyone to share their thoughts to help build a place for everyone.”

The new library will expand library services to residents in the quickly growing northwest area of the city. The library is expected to open in late 2026 in the Garden City Shopping Centre.
