Winnipeg, MB – At 4:49 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire at a vacant commercial building in the 300 block of Church Avenue.

The fire was well involved, and heavy smoke was coming from the building when crews arrived on scene. They launched a fire attack from the outside of the building and used aerial ladder trucks to apply water to the fire.

Once conditions improved, firefighters went inside to finish putting the fire out. It was declared under control just before 6 a.m.

Crews evacuated a neighbouring home as a precaution. They also completed a search of the commercial building and no occupants were found inside. No injuries were reported.

The fire caused significant damage to the building, and it is expected to be a total loss. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
