Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Balmoral Street

Released: February 7, 2024 at 8:55 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:52 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire involving two vacant houses in the 500 block of Balmoral Street.

When crews arrived to the scene, they found one of the houses fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to the second house. Crews launched a defensive fire attack using hose lines and aerial ladders. In addition to applying water to the fire, they also worked to stop the fire from spreading to additional structures.

Once conditions improved, crews were able to enter one of the houses to fight the fire. They were unable to enter the house where the fire originated as it sustained significant damages and partially collapsed.

Crews evacuated a neighbouring house as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The fire was declared under control at 7:44 p.m. Crews are expected to remain on scene into tonight, ensuring all hotspots are extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
