St. Vital Bridge east sidewalk closure extended to December 2021 for large-scale sewer main work

Released: January 11, 2021 at 3:35 p.m.

Sidewalk on west side of bridge will continue to be accessible

Winnipeg, MB – The sidewalk located on the east side of the St. Vital Bridge will be closed until December 2021, to accommodate a large-scale sewer main replacement.

This work requires temporary pipes to be run on the east sidewalk of the bridge. The sidewalk on the west side of the bridge will continue to be accessible to pedestrians. Cyclists should be prepared to share the road or look for alternative routes using the City’s bike map.

Construction of the new sewer main is anticipated to begin in spring or summer 2021. Replacing sewer mains helps protect our rivers and lakes, and is one of the steps the City takes to meet its Environment Act Licence requirements.
There may be times when lanes on the bridge will be closed to traffic to accommodate the work. For regular updates on City of Winnipeg lane closures, please visit: City of Winnipeg - Regional Lane Closures.
