The City of Winnipeg is receiving additional capital funding from the federal government under Round 3 of the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI). The funding, which is being distributed through the Major Cities Stream of the program, will be used to enhance the delivery of affordable housing units that support vulnerable people and populations in Winnipeg.
Proponents that align with the intent of the program may be selected for further consideration and will be contacted directly for more information.
Priority for the Rapid Housing Initiative will be given to projects that can demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Led by an Indigenous organization or government;
- Support women and/or women and children, particularly Indigenous women and children;
- Serve priority populations including people experiencing homelessness;
- Development site has already been secured;
- Construction can be completed within 18 months.
Eligible building types are limited to the following:
- Acquisition of land and construction of modular and traditionally constructed housing;
- Acquisition of land and existing buildings for the purpose of conversion from non-residential to residential use;
- Acquisition of land and rehabilitation of existing vacant/derelict housing.
Any individual project must contain a minimum of five units/beds and meet all program requirements including affordability as defined by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Please visit the CMHC website for complete information on program requirements.
