Soyez des nôtres : Un anniversaire de nounours à la Bibliothèque publique de Winnipeg

Winnipeg Public Library staff holding Winnie-the-Pooh books and a puppet inside a library

This October, we are inviting families to celebrate 100 years of Winnie-the-Pooh with special displays, story times, crafts, and activities at Winnipeg Public Library branches across the city.

The first collection of Winnie-the-Pooh stories was published on October 14, 1926. Since then, the stories have inspired readers around the world with tales of friendship, curiosity, and small adventures.

From October 11 to 17, all Winnipeg Public Library branches will feature a display to celebrate the beloved bear and his friends.

Whether Winnie-the-Pooh is an old favorite or you are introducing your child for the first time, we look forward to making new memories with you and your family.

Join us for a special family story time

On Saturday, October 17, select branches will be hosting a special family story time, featuring stories about Winnie-the-Pooh, bears, the woods, and other fun adventures. Following story time, there will be a craft.

There will also be activities in the children’s areas, including a hidden letter search.

Story times at Louis Riel and St. James-Assiniboia libraries are being held as drop-in events, no registration required.

Advance registration is required at the following branches:

Keep an eye out for a Winnie-the-Pooh puppet! He will be visiting these branches throughout the week.

Our Winnie collection

Winnipeg Public Library offers many ways to explore this well-loved collection of stories, from classic print editions and picture books to e-books and audiobooks.

We have just over 190 Winnie-related titles in our collection. Most of these titles are in English, with additional titles available in French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Portuguese.

Our collection includes nine copies of Winnie-the-Pooh, the first book of stories that follow the adventures of Pooh and Piglet, Kanga and Roo, Owl, Rabbit, and Eeyore. You can continue the adventures with The House at Pooh Corner. This heartwarming sequel to the first book introduces Tigger to the Hundred Acre Wood for the first time.

We also have twenty-two copies of The world of Winnie-the-Pooh: The complete Winnie-the-Pooh [and] The House at Pooh Corner. It brings together all twenty of A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories in one volume.

"Winnie-the-Pooh and Winnie the bear are still loved and beloved by Winnipeggers and have been throughout its many years in publication,” said Aileen Clear, Collections Librarian. “Parents and caregivers rediscover this special bear with their children and grandchildren, and the books continue to be well-read today in our library collection."
