Locally made new fire engines to support emergency response

Three new fire engines are ready for duty... and they’re fully made in Winnipeg.

Built by locally owned and operated Fort Garry Fire Trucks, the new engines will replace aging vehicles in our current fleet.

They're helping ensure firefighters have the safe, reliable, and effective equipment they need to respond to fires, rescues, and other emergencies across Winnipeg.

Tools of the trade

Fire engines are among the most important tools emergency responders use every day.

In Winnipeg, they respond to more than 100,000 incidents each year in all types of weather and conditions. Over time, this heavy use leads to wear that can affect performance and reliability.

Replacing aging trucks before they fail helps ensure firefighters have dependable equipment when they need it most.

Locally made

Fort Garry Fire Trucks was the successful bidder for the 2025 contract for three fire trucks and one additional heavy rescue unit expected to be ready in 2026. Eight additional trucks are on order and anticipated to be delivered over the next two years.

Headquartered in Centreport, Fort Garry Fire Trucks has been part of the local manufacturing community for more than a century. Established in 1919 and named for its original location at the corner of Fort and Garry Street, the company employs about 150 people and builds emergency vehicles for departments across North America.

The new fire engines cost $1.3 million each, with funding allocated through the City of Winnipeg’s 2025 budget. The purchase is part of an $18 million investment in fire truck renewal over the next three years.

The investment will help keep Winnipeg’s emergency response fleet equipped, modern, and ready to serve you in all types of weather.
