Since becoming a Fair Trade Town in 2017, we have continued our commitment to ethical and sustainable sourcing practices.
As part of this pledge, we encourage staff to serve only Fairtrade-certified coffee, tea, and sugar where offered. This means serving products made using minimum standards for things like:
- Hired labour conditions
- Environmental sustainability
- Fair pricing structures
“Fair Trade is a global movement that seeks to improve working conditions for marginalized producers and workers in developing countries,” said Terminder Singh, our Sustainable Procurement Liaison.
“It also advocates for better product pricing, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and ending forced child labour.”
We’re a proud member of the Fair Trade Winnipeg Steering Committee. The committee works with local restaurants, businesses, schools, and retailers to promote Fairtrade-certified options. You’ll also find them educating the public on the importance of Fair Trade at community events throughout the year.
Contact us if you’re interested in volunteering with the committee.
