Fairtrade Canada has recognized our leadership in ethical procurement by naming Winnipeg the Fair Trade Town of the Year for 2026.
The award reflects our commitment to using purchasing power to support dignity in work, inclusive economic development, and Fair Trade principles. It was presented at the recent National Fair Trade Conference held in Winnipeg.
“Winnipeg’s Fair Trade Town designation is not just symbolic — it represents a collaborative effort among local government, businesses, educational institutions, and community members to promote and expand access to Fairtrade-certified products,” said Terminder Singh, our Sustainable Procurement Liaison.
“The initiative aligns with our broader goals of sustainability, equity, and community engagement. We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition.”
As part of our Fair Trade commitment, we encourage staff to serve only Fairtrade-certified coffee, tea, and sugar. This means serving products made using minimum standards for things like:
Hired labour conditions
Environmental sustainability
Fair pricing structures
Our staff are also regularly out in the community to raise awareness about responsible consumption. If you see them at an event or grocery store, stop by to say hi and grab a Fair Trade sample or two.
