Grabbing a coffee? Don’t put that drink cup in the garbage once you’re done with it. We're now accepting empty paper cups in our curbside and public recycling collection.
This recycling program expansion was developed in partnership with Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba Inc. and Recycle Everywhere.
What kind of cups are recyclable?
Empty disposable paper cups used for coffee, slushies and sodas can be put in your blue bin. Clear plastic beverage cups and lids for cold beverages like iced coffee are also accepted.
Please note that you cannot recycle any paper and plastic straws, coffee lids, foam cups, or black plastics. Those items should be placed in your garbage bin.
Cut down waste this summer
Recycling your cups isn’t the only way to keep your summer green. Consider using our compost drop-off stations for food scraps.
For every tonne of food waste we keep out of the landfill, we keep two tonnes of CO2 out of the atmosphere. You can find them at all our 4R Winnipeg Depots as well as several community centres. We also have a map of food waste drop off stations so you can easily find the one closest to you.
Not sure what to recycle?
We accept a lot of items in our recycling program. If you aren’t sure where to put what, don't sweat it. Just check out the Recyclepedia. It helps you sort what can go into your blue bin.
Our City, Our Podcast
If you’ve always wondered what happens to the items you recycle, then you’ll want to listen to this past episode of Our City, Our Podcast. Mark Kinsley, Superintendent of the Waste Diversion, offers simple ways we can all become better recyclers and even clears up some misconceptions about our recycling program.
You can listen to the episode in the player below or on any major podcasting platform. It was released in June 2024.
