A technician who provides IT support to Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) 9-1-1 call centre has been named technician of the year by an international telecommunications company.
Last month, Robert Kubisch was given the award by NICE Systems. Every year, the company honours people who work in public safety emergency communications.
“It’s a real honour to receive this award. I’m really grateful for the nomination,” said Kubisch, a Public Safety Answering Point Information System Specialist at an award ceremony in October.
Kubisch is responsible for the maintenance, support, and operation of all information systems and technology needed in 9-1-1 and public safety services within the WPS.
“People like Robert allow us to take calls from people in life or death situations. It’s a critical service for residents, and technicians help keep it all running smoothly,” said Insp. Gord Spado, who oversees the communications centre.
Colleagues say Kubisch goes above and beyond.
"It’s common for Robert to also put the members of the communication centre first. Robert always vocalizes compassion for his colleagues, recognizing their difficult jobs, and going out of his way to ensure technology supports them in their work,” Kubisch’s colleague Stacey Cann said in her award nomination.
"I'm so happy to see him recognized in this fashion," she added.
