Dressed in bright yellow with ‘Safety Officer’ on their backs, you may have seen them on and around the Winnipeg Transit system.
We’re looking for compassionate individuals who want to help people, support public safety, and make a difference in their city.
About the job
Community Safety Officers are sworn Manitoba Peace Officers and City of Winnipeg Special Constables. They work closely with Winnipeg Transit, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, and Winnipeg Police Service.
Their primary focus is on public peacekeeping and social intervention. They use a caring, trauma-informed approach to help people who are experiencing homelessness, addictions, and mental health issues.
In their first two years of service, they’ve:
- Conducted over 10,000 wellbeing checks
- Provided hundreds of safe rides to vulnerable residents
- Intervened in thousands of disturbances
They’ve also saved more than 40 lives by using their advanced first-aid skills.
What it takes
This role is a good fit for people who stay calm under pressure, treat others with respect, and want to serve their community.

- Build trust with the public
- Balance safety and compassion
This job requires post-secondary education in social work, crisis intervention, sociology, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and education.
