Winnipeg, MB – Next week, Executive Policy Committee (EPC) will consider ratification of a negotiated agreement between the City of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Police Senior Officers Association’s (WPSOA).
“I want to thank the negotiating parties for working collaboratively on this agreement,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “This represents the fourth, multi-year settlement that has been successfully negotiated this year, all of which have been more sustainable for taxpayers and more in-line with forecasted inflationary increases while also respecting and valuing the important work provided by employees.”
The Memorandum of Agreement between the City and WPSOA is a 60-month term from December 25, 2016 until December 31, 2021, and includes general wage adjustments of 2.5% at the end of 2017, 2.5% at the end of 2018, 2.5% at the end of 2019, 1% in June of 2020, 1.5% at the end of 2020, 1% in June of 2021, and 1.5% at the end of 2021.
Additional changes include:
- Deletion of the Executive Assistant position and classification from the bargaining unit resulting in a permanent reduction in the bargaining unit strength by one,
- Freezing of pay rates as at December 24, 2016 and unused balances for sick leave cash out provisions,
- Updating of Maternity Leave provisions to reflect changes to Employment Insurance legislation, and
- 50% increase in the number of overtime hours required to be worked (from 40 to 60 hours) before payment.
The next steps in the approval process include the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) being considered at the next Executive Policy Committee scheduled for Wednesday, October 6, 2017. The MOA will also need to be approved by Council.
