Want to make voting even easier in the 2026 Municipal Council and School Boards Election? Check the voters list now to make sure you’re on it.
Why being on the voters list matters
Being on the list means you are registered to vote and we’ll mail you a voter’s notice in the fall. Make sure to take it with you when you vote because it will streamline the process for you and don’t forget to also bring your identification.
Another perk of the voter’s notice is it will list the voting locations around your home and advance voting opportunities.
If you aren’t on the voters list when you get to the voting location, you’ll have to take an oath before casting your ballot. This can take some time.
Make sure you’re eligible to vote
Before checking to see if you’re on the list, you’ll first want to make sure you’re eligible to vote. You need to be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old on October 28, 2026 (Election Day).
To vote for Mayor and Councillor, you’ll also have to have lived in Winnipeg or own property in the city since April 28, 2026.
When voting for School Trustee, you have to be an actual resident of the school division for a period of at least six months (since April 28, 2026) and an actual resident in the school division ward on October 28, 2026.
If you meet those requirements, then your name can be on the voters list.
How to check the voters list
There are over 525,000 names on the voters list. You can easily check to see if your name is already on it through our election website.
You’ll need to enter your name, birthday, and address. This personal information is only being collected for election activities and will not be used for any other purpose.
You can also contact 311 and have our customer service staff check for you.
Name not on the list? What to do next
If you are eligible to vote and your name isn’t on the list, you can have your name added.
You can do that through our election website or by contacting 311.
Don’t wait though. The deadline to have your name added to the voters list is August 26. If you missed that deadline, and meet the eligibility requirements, you can still vote. You will have to take an oath before casting your ballot. Make sure to also bring your identification.
Mark your calendar
Put a reminder into your calendar now to vote in the election.
We know it can be tough to fit voting into your schedule. That’s why there are several advance voting opportunities for you. We’ll be set up in malls, community centres, universities, at City Hall, and more through October. You’ll be able to vote at any location during the advance voting period.
On Election Day, October 28, 2026, you’ll have to cast your ballot at one of the voting locations in your Council ward. They’ll be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
