Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) recently responded to two house fires:
Lansdowne Avenue
At 1:33 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a house fire in the 0-100 block of Lansdowne Avenue.
At the scene, crews saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside because it was unsafe to enter.
The fire caused significant structural damage to the house, and it will be demolished. WFPS crews will be on scene into the morning.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury while at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Stella Avenue
At 5:11 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house 400 block of Stella Avenue.
At the scene, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters launched an exterior attack using an aerial ladder.
The fire caused significant structural damage to the house, and it will also be demolished. WFPS crews will be on scene into the morning.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. This house sustained damage in fires earlier this year and in August 2021.
Once crews complete their work at both scenes and roads re-open, drivers should use caution in the areas, as water used to fight the fire has frozen and may have created slippery conditions. The City of Winnipeg will monitor conditions and apply sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks to improve traction.
