Winnipeg, MB – At 11:52 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 400 block of Arlington Street.
When they arrived at the scene, crews found a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. As it was not safe to enter the structure, a defensive attack was launched with crews using aerial ladders to apply water to the fire and protect neighbouring homes. The fire was declared under control this morning at 2 a.m.
One firefighter was injured at the scene. They were assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. While damage estimates are not available, the house suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage and is likely to be a complete loss.
