Emergency Preparedness Week is May 1-7, 2022
Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is recognizing Emergency Preparedness Week, May 1 – 7, and encouraging residents to take steps to prepare for a range of emergencies. This year’s theme is “Be Ready for Anything.”
“While residents may be feeling a sense of fatigue in light of recent snow storms and heavy rain events, it’s important to remain vigilant and be prepared for emergencies before they happen,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Our Office of Emergency Management continues to play a key role in connecting residents with vital information, bolstering community resiliency, and working with civic departments to plan and prepare for emergencies.”
“Small steps can make a big difference in preparing households for an emergency,” said Jason Shaw, Assistant Chief, Emergency Management.
Households should consider putting together an emergency preparedness kit with food, water, medication and other items. Emergency preparedness plans can be put together in 20 minutes with an online tool.
“These measures are quick, relatively affordable, and can help give residents peace of mind that they are taking steps to protect themselves and their loved ones in the event of a disaster,” said Shaw.
