Winnipeg, MB – Residents can now visit the newly renovated Munroe Library, located at 489 London St., which boasts new and improved spaces and features to enhance the visitor experience and meet our customers’ needs.
In addition to new paint and flooring throughout the branch, visitors will find a number of changes to the library, including a new service desk, new interior book return with improved accessibility, and a larger children’s area.
“It is a pleasure to officially open this newly upgraded library for people to engage, learn, and grow,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Over the last several years, Council has approved significant investments in rebuilding and redeveloping libraries across Winnipeg. The newly updated Munroe Library is now in a position to be a valuable community resource for many years to come.”
“Libraries are community hubs where everyone is welcome, whether they’re seeking information, shelter from the elements, employment, or new skills,” said Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “Libraries like Munroe provide access to a wide range of programming for visitors of all ages, and I hope Winnipeggers enjoy these enhanced facilities for many years to come.”
“I am pleased to see that renovations are now complete,” said Jason Schreyer, Councillor for Elmwood - East Kildonan. “Our local library is prepared more than ever to provide an excellent array of services to our community.”
Other new features include a tutorial room that visitors can book for studying or small meetings, and a family literacy playground, where children can play with a number of activities that promote fun and learning.
The budget for the Library’s renovations was $220,000, funded through Winnipeg Public Library’s interior infrastructure capital funding.
