Winnipeg, MB – At 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 600 block of Victor Street.
Once crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews used hand lines on exposures to knock down some of the flames before making entry into the building and fighting the fire offensively. They declared the fire under control at 4:52 p.m.
A search of the building was conducted but no occupants were found. One firefighter was assessed on-scene for an injury by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
Occupants of a neighbouring home self-evacuated prior to crew arrival, and they have since returned to their residence.
Crews are expected to remain on-scene into the evening addressing hot spots. Local road closures are in effect and residents are advised to avoid the area.
The home suffered extensive structural damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
