Winnipeg, MB – At 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire at Westview School (600 Hoka Street).
Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the single-storey building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 6:48 p.m.
A search of the school was completed and no occupants were found. Crews evacuated the daycare facility attached to the school as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused during renovations. No damage estimates are available at this time but the facility suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.
Parents and guardians of Westview School students should monitor their email for updates on when the school will re-open.
