Winnipeg, MB – At 6:32 a.m. on April 11, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey retail building in the 700 block of Ellice Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. An offensive attack was initially launched but due to deteriorating conditions, crews transitioned to an exterior, defensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:06 a.m.
The WFPS drone, equipped with a thermal imaging camera, was used to assist in the detection of hotspots.
No damage estimates are currently available, but the building is expected to be a complete loss.
Occupants of a neighbouring home were temporarily evacuated. Their residence suffered some heat damage, as well as water damage.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
