Winnipeg, MB – Mayor Brian Bowman, Councillor Sherri Rollins, and Councillor Matt Allard participated in a ribbon cutting today to recognize playground renovations at Burmac Park. The park improvements include a brand-new play structure and swing set.
“This is the type of project that makes a big difference in the lives of neighbourhood families,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Having a brand-new playground down the street is a tremendous opportunity for kids in this area and I know families will enjoy this playground for many years to come.”
“I have spent countless hours at playgrounds just like this with my own kids and can tell you a safe and fun playground is the gift that keeps on giving,” said Councillor Sherri Rollins, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “An addition like this can give families a new appreciation for the neighbourhood they live in. I want to congratulate the residents of Southdale on this new amenity and encourage families to come out and enjoy it!”
“This new playground will be a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood,” said Councillor Matt Allard, St. Boniface. “The playground had been in need of replacement for some time and I am so pleased that we’re able to offer families in Southdale with this important recreational opportunity. This comes on the heels of recent improvements and additions to sidewalks in the area, which are helping to make this corner of Southdale a safer and more pleasant place for families.”
The features of the playground renovations at Burmac Park include a new 2-12 play structure with a slide, climbing components, play panels, and motion components, as well as a swing set. The total project cost of $98,000 was funded from the 2019 Parks and Recreation Enhancement Program.
