Swimming lessons to resume at Pan Am Pool beginning on August 10

Winnipeg, MB – As of July 30, all staff from the Community Services Department who were temporarily laid off as a result of COVID-19 have been recalled. The final group of recalls was completed enabling the City to reopen a number of recreation facilities.

Beginning today, August 4, four more wading pools are reopening:

  • Central Corydon Community Centre, 1 Sir John Franklin Rd.
  • Ducharme Park, 65 Morrow Ave.
  • Turtle Island Neighbourhood Centre, 510 King St.
  • Elmwood Winter Club, 75 Brazier St.

Two more locations will be open Thursday, August 6:

  • Bruce Park, 1966 Portage Ave.
  • King Edward & Ness Playground, 334 King Edward St.

Social distancing is required and individuals must maintain a distance of at least two metres from every other individual while queuing to enter the pool, on the pool deck, and in the water; however, this does not apply to people who can demonstrate that they are living together in the same household.

Limited use of washrooms will be available.

For hours of operation and more information, please visit City of Winnipeg – Wading Pools.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons will resume exclusively at Pan Am Pool, beginning on August 10. Registration for lessons begins on Wednesday, August 5 at 8 a.m. Morning lessons will run between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. Afternoon lessons will run between 4:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

All swimming lessons will be 45 minutes each, with staggered start and end times to help reduce congregations at entrance/exit. To see the full selection of classes being offered, visit winnipeg.ca/leisureonline. Register at leisureONLINE or contact 311.

Access to lockers and change rooms/showers will be limited and spaced out to follow social distancing guidelines. Please come dressed to swim and ready to use the pool.

Children participating in lessons are asked to practice frequent handwashing and maintain two metres of space away from their peers and other swimmers, in accordance with social distancing guidelines.

Parents are strongly encouraged to accompany their child in the water in an effort to ensure distancing, and they may be asked to accompany their child in the water should the child be unable to maintain two metres between themselves and other swimmers when asked.
