Snow clearing operations underway in Winnipeg

Regional routes plowed, sanded and salted; work begins on bus/collector routes

Winnipeg, MB - Snow clearing crews have been out on Winnipeg streets since 10:00 p.m. last night plowing and sanding Priority 1 (Regional routes) streets and have now begun working on Priority 2 (collector/bus routes).

The following is an update of snow clearing operations as of this morning:
Priority 1 streets - Truck plowing operations are continuing to improve road conditions. Salting operations are ongoing as current temperatures and the daytime forecast support this application. Load and hauling operations are also ongoing at priority locations
Priority 2 streets - Truck plowing operations have commenced and will continue on the collector/bus route network. Snow hauling operations are ongoing to improve sight lines in school zones, at bus stops, crosswalks and lane/alley intersections. Maintenance sanding is being done at priority locations.

Priority 3 streets - Monitoring residential road network conditions, areas prone to drifting are monitored and will continue to be addressed with spot plowing services and spreading sand as and where required.

Priority 1, 2 and 3 sidewalks - Full sidewalk plowing/blowing operation of the P1, P2, P3 sidewalk network ongoing.

Back lanes - Monitoring lane conditions.

Citizens are urged to use caution in and around these winter equipment operations.

Citizens are reminded that the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect, which means no parking on snow routes from 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban is an extension of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban, which is currently in effect daily from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.; Sunday, December 1, 2013 to Saturday, March 1, 2014.
