Winnipeg, MB - The Animal Services Agency and Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert are teaming up to stress the importance of dog licensing in the community. To help educate dog owners and the public about the need for dog licensing, the Agency will hold a two-day, special event.

Friday, April 4 from 12 noon to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 5 from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m.

Event highlights will include:
- Licensing special: Purchase a new dog license and receive a micro-chip for only $10. For information on license fees, visit City of Winnipeg - Dog Licensing
- Volunteer drive: Learn about the various volunteer opportunities such as dog walking and socializing.
- Dog sale: All in-house adult dog adoptions are only $99 and include license, micro-chip, spay/neuter, basic shots, food and pet health insurance.
Goodie bags and handouts for children will be available and Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert will be onsite to provide information on how they help reunite lost dogs with their owners.
Animal Services officials remind the public that dogs over six months of age must have and wear a dog license. Dogs entering Animal Services not wearing a valid license are held three days until being placed up for adoption, sent to rescue, or euthanized. Stray dogs found wearing a current license are given a “free release” once a year and held up to 10 days at Animal Services.
In 2013, 856 dogs wearing a current license were reunited by 311 without ever setting foot in the Animal Services’ facility. Dog license tags protect one’s dog while license revenues help provide the essential service of animal control in Winnipeg.
