Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires earlier today.
Riverton Avenue fire
At 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, multi-family home in the 300 block of Riverton Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the house. Crews fought the fire from inside the house, declaring it under control at 11:10 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Penny Lane fire
At 11:53 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow on Penny Lane.
Upon arrival at the scene, heavy smoke was found coming from the house. Crews entered the house and fought the fire from inside, declaring it under control at 12:54 p.m.
All occupants of the house self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One of them was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was deployed to the scene to assist the displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.
While completing a search of the house, firefighters located two dogs which had sustained injuries from the fire. Medical attention was initially provided to the animals by on-scene paramedics using specialized animal equipment carried on WFPS vehicles.
Care of the animals was transferred to the Animal Services Agency once their officers arrived on scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
