Winnipeg, MB – The St. James Civic Centre is expanding to better meet community recreation needs. The City is looking for input on the early design and what recreation programs residents would like to see.
The St. James Civic Centre was built in 1967. Critical building code, mechanical, electrical, structural, and accessibility upgrades were recently completed. These necessary upgrades ensured the facility could remain open for years to come, independent of a facility expansion. The recent upgrades will help accommodate the facility’s expansion.
In July 2021, the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba, and City of Winnipeg announced $14 million in funding for the St. James Civic Centre Expansion project.
The project will include:
- new multi-purpose and meeting rooms
- a community kitchen
- improved viewing area for the swimming pool
- administrative space and shared program space for the St. James Assiniboia 55+ Centre
- improvements to the auditorium, building entry, and washrooms
- improvements to the parking lot
Residents can provide their input through an online survey, available until February 8, 2023, or by attending an open house at the St. James Civic Center, 2055 Ness Ave., on February 1, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Feedback from residents will help tailor the proposed addition and renovation to meet the community’s needs.
