Winnipeg, MB – At 10:48 a.m. on January 17, 2023, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a 14-storey apartment building in the 0 to 100 block of Chesterfield Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from windows on one of the upper floors. Crews fought the fire from inside the building, declaring it under control at 11:13 a.m. The fire was contained to the suite where it originated, but several other suites sustained significant water damage.
Some residents self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. A full evacuation of the building was not required. Winnipeg Transit deployed a bus to the scene to provide shelter for those who did exit the building. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
