Declared Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tonight at midnight; Residential Parking Ban starting Wednesday morning

Winnipeg, MB - Today, over 200 spreaders and plows are working to clear main routes, bus routes, collector streets, back lanes, sidewalks, and active transportation paths. Crews are also applying salt to roadways to improve traction.

Recycling and garbage collection may be slower than usual today. Residents are advised that if today (Monday) is their collection day, to please leave carts out until 10 p.m. tonight. If the carts have not been collected by 10 p.m., residents are advised to put them away and then place them out by 7 a.m. tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

Winnipeg Transit is currently experiencing delays. Residents are reminded to allow extra travel time and to check bus schedules before heading out.

Declared Snow Route Parking Ban
To facilitate snow clearing on major routes, a Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting tonight at midnight.

The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

Vehicles parked in violation of the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban may receive a $100 ticket ($75 if paid early), and may be towed to the towing company’s compound.

The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in place until snow clearing is completed and the public will be notified when the ban is lifted. At such time, the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban will continue to be in effect from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Snow routes are clearly marked with signs like these:

Residents are encouraged to check their streets for snow route signs, or if unsure, to contact 311 or use the online address lookup tool.

Residential Parking Ban
Plowing of residential streets will begin Wednesday morning to improve the condition of residential streets. As a result, a Residential Parking Ban has been declared and will be in effect starting Wednesday, January 9 at 7 a.m.

Residents are urged to confirm their snow zone letter in order to determine when their residential street is scheduled for clearing. You can find your snow zone with the address lookup tool, by contacting 311 or by using the Know Your Zone app. Residents are encouraged to find out their snow zone letter in advance of the start of the residential plow and to make alternate parking arrangements if they park on the street.

Starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, residents of snow zones A, G, J, L, P, and S will need to move their vehicles as plowing will be underway in those zones until 7 p.m. Please refer to the entire schedule below for details about when snow zones will be cleared this week.

Avoid a ticket and tow
For the residential streets that are scheduled, residents are urged to find an alternate place to park such as an off-street driveway or parking lot, or a nearby street that is not currently scheduled for plowing. This will help the plowing operation run smoothly and will prevent you from being ticketed and towed.

Vehicles parked in violation of the Residential Parking Ban may receive a $150 ticket ($112.50 if paid early), and may be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be plowed, or has already been cleared. If you believe your vehicle may have been towed due to the Residential Parking Ban, please contact 311 for assistance in locating it.
