Motorists are urged to use extra caution and to drive to winter conditions

Winnipeg, MB – Crews were out overnight and continue to plow and salt routes today. Upon completion of main routes, crews will begin plowing collector streets and bus routes. Priority one sidewalks and active transportation pathways will also be plowed beginning this morning. Salting and sanding will continue today to improve traction.

Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and reduce speed. Please stay well back from heavy equipment.

Avoid a ticket and tow

The City's Annual Snow Route Parking Ban is in effect from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Citizens are encouraged to check their streets for snow route signs, or if unsure, to call 311 or use the online Address Lookup Tool.

New this year, the Winnipeg Parking Authority will begin exercising their right to issue tickets for parking violations on snow routes via mail in addition to placing them on the windshield of the vehicle. By using a mail-out method, the Winnipeg Parking Authority will be able to cover more area to further support the Public Works Department in their efforts to ensure critical routes are clear of snow and ice.

Snow routes are a top priority for snow clearing to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate quickly and safely around the city. It’s important that vehicles are not parked on snow routes overnight in order to enable rapid and efficient snow clearing of these critical routes.

Vehicles parked in violation of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban can receive a $100 ticket ($50 if paid early), and may be towed to the towing company’s compound.
