Winnipeg, MB - Following this past weekend’s snowfall, a truck plow of P1 (regional) and P2 (collector) routes was completed. Throughout this week, crews will focus on returning to problematic locations to address drifted and compacted snow surfaces using graders, which are capable of clearing down to the pavement in areas not addressed during the truck plowing operation.
Crews begin truck plowing during major events as opposed to waiting until the event is over to allow for reasonable travel as soon as possible. We follow-up with a grader plowing operation that focuses on areas where snow has drifted, or was compacted in place by traffic during the snowfall event.
To avoid causing severe traffic disruptions, grader plowing will be done at night and will continue until complete, which is expected by early Saturday morning. At this time, other than addressing localized drifting, plowing of P3 (residential and non-collector industrial) streets is not being contemplated.
Sanding operations will continue as conditions warrant, to improve roadway traction.
Only the regular Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect at the present time, meaning parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on streets displaying “Snow Route” signs.
Citizens are urged to drive according to conditions and reminded to use caution around snow clearing equipment.
