Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Brian Bowman today announced members of the new selection committee in Winnipeg's search for the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) who will lead the City's Public Service of more than 8,800 employees.
The expanded search for candidates will resume under the guidance and leadership of the City of Winnipeg’s Corporate Support Services Human Resources Division. An updated competition will be advertised nationally for three weeks through the month of December. All applications received through the external firm that had been awarded the contract to conduct the search last year will remain for consideration of the Search committee.
“We have a commitment to Winnipeggers to get to work immediately on filling this position with the right individual for the job who demonstrates not only the expertise to lead a civil service into the future, but who can fulfill our mandate to move forward with strong leadership and a positive new tone,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “The CAO Search Committee will resume the work started in the previous search and commit to further expanding that search and opening the door to new applicants until the New Year.”
The new CAO Selection Committee remains inclusive of non-EPC members of Council and includes:

- Councillor Mike Pagtakhan - (Point Douglas) Deputy Mayor
- Councillor Jenny Gerbasi - (Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry)
- Councillor Matt Allard - (St. Boniface)
“I presented a motion for a third party to review the CAO’s performance annually and report back to Council so I am pleased to have this opportunity to work toward this for Winnipeggers early on in the search and hiring process,” said CAO Search committee member Councillor Matt Allard.
Executive Policy Committee (EPC) is mandated by provincial legislation through the City of Winnipeg Charter, to recommend appointments of statutory officers, including the CAO, to City Council.
