Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to three overnight structure fires.

Kennedy Street fire

At 3:14 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, WFPS crews responded to a monitored fire alarm in a seven-storey high-rise apartment building in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.

9-1-1 dispatchers initially declared a second alarm because of the potential scale of the incident and dispatched additional units to the scene.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found smoke in the building. They located a fire and launched an interior fire attack. They declared the fire under control at 3:43 a.m.

Residents were temporarily evacuated from the building. They were able to return to their suites once the fire was extinguished and building ventilated. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Coulter Avenue fire

At 12:03 a.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey commercial/industrial building in the 1000 block of Coulter Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the building. They launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 1:00 a.m.

Firefighters searched the structure, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Bannatyne Avenue fire

At 7:59 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025, WFPS crews responded to a fire in a vacant, two-storey residence in the 400 block of Bannatyne Avenue. An on-duty WFPS crew driving through the area noticed smoke and flames coming from the building and reported the fire.

Heavy fire conditions prevented firefighters from entering the house. They launched a defensive attack using handlines and an aerial ladder. Crews brought the fire under control at 11:42 p.m.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team provided support for the displaced residents.

No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.

Damage estimates are not available, but the house is considered a complete loss with significant fire, smoke and water damage. It was previously damaged in a fire in July 2025.

Residents should use caution in the area because water from firefighting has frozen and created slippery conditions. City of Winnipeg crews are monitoring the area and applying sand and de-icing agents to roads and sidewalks as needed to improve traction.
