Winnipeg, MB – At 3:08 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of fire at a one-and-a-half storey house in the 500 block of Young Street.
Crews could see heavy smoke coming from the structure when they arrived on scene. There were also reports that someone was trapped inside. Firefighters entered the house to search for the occupant, and removed them from the building. Paramedics quickly assessed the patient and transported them to hospital in critical condition.
While some firefighters were working to remove the occupant, another crew launched a fire attack, using hose lines to put the fire out. It was declared under control at 3:36 a.m.
Other residents of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was called to help displaced residents find temporary accommodations.
Damage estimates are not available at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
