Winnipeg, MB – At 9:48 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Hargrave Street.
When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the building. They entered and fought the fire from the interior, declaring the fire under control at 10:14 p.m. Damage was mostly contained to the suite where the fire originated.
Some occupants self-evacuated and some were assisted by firefighters. Firefighters also rescued one individual from the building. That person was assessed and treated by on-scene paramedics and then transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
