Winnipeg, MB – This evening at 5 p.m., representatives from all levels of government and the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada will join members of the community to celebrate the naming of Jinnah Park, in honour of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah led Pakistan to independence, and was its first governor-general and president of its constituent assembly.
“Our Pakistani community is strong and proud of their history, and of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s principles of social justice and equality in the creation of Pakistan,” said Janice Lukes, City Councillor for South Winnipeg - St Norbert. “It is important that we share our cultures and traditions to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of how cultural diversity goes hand-in-hand with a just and equitable society.”
Dr. Rashid Bahri, community leader, Masroor Kahn of the Pakistan Students’ Association and members of Winnipeg’s thriving Pakistani community are working to spread a message of peace, unity and harmony.
“With faith, discipline, and selfless devotion to duty, an individual can achieve anything," said Dr. Rashid Bahri. “It is important to rise above sectional interests and private ambitions.”

Located south of Tim Sales Drive at Northern Lights Drive, Jinnah Park is a neighbourhood park which lies alongside a naturalized pond, and includes a recreational cricket field, a new play structure, swing set, and benches.
