Winnipeg, MB – The public is invited to attend a panel discussion on March 5, 2018, where a group of Winnipeg’s innovation leaders will discuss their views on what a smart Winnipeg looks like. Using the public’s Smart Cities Challenge idea submissions, panelists will discuss how the ideas fit into their vision for Winnipeg. Breakout sessions will follow the panel discussion to give the public an opportunity to provide their feedback on the smart city ideas. The purpose of this event is to move ideas towards a winning submission for the City of Winnipeg.
The Smart Cities Challenge asks Canadian communities to come up with a big idea and to submit an application to win up to $50 million. The Challenge encourages communities to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data and connected technology. Earlier this month, the City asked stakeholders and members of the public to come up with their most creative initiatives to help make Winnipeg even better. In total, over 100 submissions were received and ideas received over 1000 likes or dislikes.
Panelists will include Michael Legary, Chief Innovation Office, and representatives from Economic Development Winnipeg and the academic community.
The event will be live streamed to engage as many Winnipeggers as possible in the discussion.
