Dynamic Line-up for Market Square Mardi Gras!
June 22, 1999 - Minister of Foreign Affairs Lloyd Axworthy and Mayor Glen Murray are throwing a street party for the whole family, with a Mardi Gras flavour. The pre-Pan Am Games bash kicks off at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 22 in Old Market Square, with music and dancing expected to last past midnight.
Winnipeg Police Service 125th. Anniversary Expo
June 14, 1999 - The Winnipeg Police Service is celebrating it's 125th. Anniversary this year. On February 23, 1874 the City of Winnipeg enacted a by-law creating the Winnipeg Police Force. In celebration of our 125th the Service is staging a "POLICE EXPO".
City Commences Residential Fogging For Mosquitoes
June 9, 1999 - Due to a sharp increase in the number of mosquitoes found in City of Winnipeg mosquito traps, the City will commence a residential mosquito fogging program stating this evening at 9:30 p.m. Fogging will continue on a daily basis between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
City Receives Award for Excellence in Business Planning Education
June 4, 1999 - The City of Winnipeg has received an Award for Excellence in Municipal Administration. The award was presented yesterday in Halifax at the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).
City of Winnipeg Animal Services Celebrates 125 Years of Service
June 1, 1999 - Today, the City of Winnipeg's Animal Services proudly celebrates the 125th anniversary of service to the citizens of Winnipeg. The City became involved in animal services on June 1, 1874, when City Council passed a by-law to "establish a pound and appoint a pound keeper to restrain animals from running at large."
